Intellectual Disability Policy

MOST COMMONLY USED MATERIALS

Here, we've highlighted photographic, sound, and moving image materials at the JFK Library—starting with the most popular—that support research on intellectual disability during the Kennedy presidency. Note: not all materials are listed online; please contact JFK.AVarchives@nara.gov for more information.

Please note that intellectual and developmental disabilities were generally referred to at the time as "mental retardation," a term reflected in many of the finding aids (guides) to our holdings, as they represent the titles assigned by Kennedy administration officials.
